Sri Lanka is an appealing travel destination for some German visitors, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes. The island offers tropical beaches and several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making it an attractive option among the 99.5 million Germans who travel abroad annually.
Sri Lanka presents a different safety landscape for tourists compared to Germany. While Germany ranks 20th in the Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka is positioned at 99th out of 160 countries, indicating a higher level of risk. The murder rate in Sri Lanka is 3.5 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than Germany's rate of 0.8. In terms of organized crime, Germany generally fares better, with lower indices across various categories compared to Sri Lanka. For instance, Germany has a state crime index of 2.0, whereas Sri Lanka's is much higher at 7.0. Overall, while many tourists visit Sri Lanka safely, it is advisable for travelers from Germany to remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings, as the safety conditions differ from those in Germany.
