Lebanon offers a unique blend of cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and modern attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Syrians. Despite recent fluctuations in tourism, its historical significance and vibrant social scene continue to draw interest from a portion of Syria's 21 million population.
Lebanon is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Syria. According to the Global Peace Index, Lebanon ranks 132nd out of 160 countries, while Syria is ranked 153rd. In terms of murder rates, Lebanon has a rate of 1.9 per 100,000 people, which is lower than Syria's rate of 2.2. However, crime levels do vary. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Lebanon has higher indices for organized crime (6.0 for mafia groups and 7.0 for crime networks) compared to Syria (4.5 and 9.0, respectively). While both countries face challenges with crime, Lebanon's overall safety for tourists is relatively better than that of Syria. Travelers should remain cautious and stay informed about the current situation in both countries.
