Jordan offers stunning landscapes and a rich history, making it an appealing destination for travelers. With its ancient sites like Petra and the Dead Sea, it attracts a segment of the 500,000 Cypriots who travel abroad annually, potentially drawing interest from some of them.
Jordan is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Cyprus. According to the Global Peace Index, Jordan ranks 65th out of 160 countries, making it safer than Cyprus, which ranks 86th. In terms of crime statistics, Jordan has a lower murder rate of 1.0 per 100,000 people compared to Cyprus's rate of 1.3. Additionally, the rates of female murders are also lower in Jordan (0.6) than in Cyprus (1.1). While Cyprus has some organized crime indices that are better than Jordan's, such as mafia groups (3.5 for Cyprus vs. 1.5 for Jordan), Jordan still maintains a relatively low level of violent crime overall. Overall, while both countries have their own safety concerns, Jordan is statistically safer than Cyprus in several key areas, making it a viable option for tourists.
