Italy is an appealing destination for visitors from Nigeria due to its rich history and culture, attracting millions of tourists each year. Its iconic cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence, along with stunning landscapes, make it particularly attractive to a segment of Nigeria's large population of 219 million.
Italy is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Nigeria. According to the Global Peace Index, Italy ranks 33rd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety, especially compared to Nigeria, which ranks 144th. In terms of crime statistics, Italy has a significantly lower murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Nigeria's 22.0. Additionally, while Italy faces challenges with organized crime, it is ranked better in various crime indices compared to Nigeria. For instance, Italy has a mafia group index of 9.0, whereas Nigeria's is 5.5, indicating a higher level of organized crime presence in Nigeria. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Italy is statistically safer for tourists than Nigeria, making it a viable option for travelers.
