Italy is a highly appealing destination for Latvian visitors, thanks to its rich history, culture, and iconic cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence. With around 500,000 Latvians traveling abroad each year, a notable portion is likely to consider Italy for their travels.
Italy is generally safe for tourists, including those from Latvia, but there are some considerations. According to safety rankings, Italy is 34th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, compared to Latvia's 25th position. However, the Global Peace Index ranks Italy 33rd out of 160 countries, indicating it is relatively safe, similar to Latvia, which is ranked 30th. In terms of crime statistics, Italy has a lower murder rate (0.5 per 100,000) compared to Latvia (3.0 per 100,000). While organized crime is more prevalent in Italy, with a mafia index of 9.0 compared to Latvia's 3.5, other crime indices show that Latvia and Italy have comparable levels of certain criminal activities. Overall, while Italy has some safety concerns, particularly regarding organized crime, it remains a popular destination for tourists and is generally safe for visitors from Latvia.
