Iran offers a unique appeal for Norwegian travelers due to its rich history and diverse landscapes. Although the country sees a modest number of foreign visitors, it has been adjusting its tourism strategies to attract more tourists. With approximately 1.7 million Norwegians traveling abroad annually, there is potential interest among some of them in exploring Iran.
Iran's safety for tourists, including those from Norway, presents some concerns. While Norway ranks 28th in the Global Peace Index, indicating a high level of safety, Iran is ranked 131st out of 160 countries, suggesting a less secure environment. In terms of crime statistics, Norway has a low murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Iran's higher rate of 2.2. Both countries report similar female murder rates at 0.6. The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights differences in safety, with Norway scoring better across various crime categories. For instance, Norway's score for mafia groups is 4.5, while Iran's is 7.0. Iran also scores poorly in state crime (9.5) and organized crime overall, indicating a higher risk environment. In summary, while many tourists visit Iran successfully, those from Norway should be aware of the higher crime rates and lower safety rankings compared to their home country. Caution and thorough planning are advisable for a safe travel experience.
