Haiti offers a unique blend of vibrant culture and rich history, making it a potentially appealing destination for some Chilean travelers. While foreign tourist arrivals have stabilized in recent years, the country's distinct offerings could attract a portion of the approximately 500,000 Chileans who travel abroad annually.
Haiti is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Chile. According to the Global Peace Index, Haiti ranks 141st out of 160 countries, while Chile is ranked 62nd. The murder rate in Haiti is significantly higher at 13.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Chile's rate of 3.6. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Haiti faces more challenges with organized crime and violence. For example, Haiti scores 8.0 for mafia groups and 6.0 for crime networks, while Chile scores 4.0 and 5.5, respectively. Tourists from Chile should exercise caution when considering travel to Haiti due to these safety concerns.
