Croatia is an appealing destination for Portuguese travelers, thanks to its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. With around 1 million Portuguese traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Croatia's blend of history and natural beauty particularly enticing.
Croatia is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Portugal. It ranks as the safest European country for safety while walking alone at night, whereas Portugal is ranked 15th in this category. According to the Global Peace Index, Croatia is ranked 15th out of 160 countries, while Portugal is slightly safer at 7th. Both countries have similar murder rates at 0.8 per 100,000 people. However, crime indices from the Global Organized Crime Index indicate that Croatia has higher scores in certain areas compared to Portugal, suggesting a slightly more challenging crime environment. For example, Croatia has higher indices for crime networks and state crime. Overall, while both countries are relatively safe, Croatia offers a favorable environment for tourists, particularly in terms of personal safety at night.
