Ghana offers a rich cultural experience and diverse landscapes, making it an appealing destination for international travelers. Its growing popularity is supported by initiatives to boost global visibility and cultural exchange. Among the 8.6 million Indians who travel abroad annually, a portion may find Ghana an intriguing option to explore.
Ghana is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Ghana ranks 54th out of 160 countries, which is significantly better than India's ranking of 114th. In terms of crime statistics, Ghana has a lower murder rate of 1.8 per 100,000 people compared to India's rate of 2.9. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Ghana at 0.6 compared to 2.5 in India. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face challenges, Ghana has slightly better scores in areas such as mafia groups (3.0 for Ghana vs. 3.5 for India) and human smuggling (5.0 for Ghana vs. 6.0 for India). However, Ghana does have higher scores in state crime and crime networks. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Ghana is relatively safer than India based on these metrics, making it a viable option for Indian tourists.
