France is a highly attractive destination for many travelers, including those from Sweden. With 4.2 million Swedes traveling abroad annually, a notable portion may be inclined to visit France, drawn by its vibrant culture and diverse offerings.
France is generally safe for tourists, but it has some safety concerns compared to Sweden. In terms of walking alone at night, France ranks 40th out of 40 countries, while Sweden ranks 36th. According to the Global Peace Index, France is ranked 84th out of 160 countries, with Sweden at 39th. Both countries have similar murder rates, at 1.1 per 100,000 people. However, statistics show slightly higher rates of female murders in France (0.7) compared to Sweden (0.5). In organized crime indices, France scores lower than Sweden across various categories, indicating a higher level of organized crime activity. For example, France has higher indices for mafia groups (6.0 vs. 5.5) and crime networks (6.5 vs. 5.5). Overall, while France is a popular tourist destination, visitors should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions.
