France is a premier global tourism destination, attracting millions of visitors annually. While it may appeal to a segment of Sri Lankan travelers, only a portion of the 300,000 Sri Lankans who travel abroad each year are likely to consider France as their destination.
France is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Sri Lanka. According to the Global Peace Index, France ranks 84th out of 160 countries, while Sri Lanka is ranked 99th, indicating that France is relatively safer. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in France is significantly lower at 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Sri Lanka's 3.5. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in France (0.7) than in Sri Lanka (2.2). While France ranks 40th among European countries for safety when walking alone at night, it is important to remain aware of your surroundings, as with any travel destination. Overall, France presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Sri Lanka, based on various crime indices and statistics.
