Spain is a highly appealing destination for visitors from Cyprus, thanks to its vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. As the third most visited country globally, it attracts millions of tourists each year with its rich historical heritage and natural beauty. Given that around 500,000 Cypriots travel abroad annually, a portion of them is likely to consider Spain as a travel destination.
Spain is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Cyprus. While Spain ranks 22nd out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is lower than Cyprus's 11th place, it still offers a relatively secure environment. According to the Global Peace Index, Spain is ranked 23rd out of 160 countries, indicating a higher level of safety compared to Cyprus, which is ranked 86th. In terms of crime statistics, Spain has a lower murder rate of 0.6 per 100,000 people compared to Cyprus's 1.3. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Spain (0.4) than in Cyprus (1.1). When considering organized crime, Cyprus generally scores better than Spain across various categories, but both countries face challenges with crime networks and drug trafficking. Overall, while there are some safety concerns, Spain remains a relatively safe place for tourists.
