Egypt is an appealing destination for a segment of Zambia's 20 million population, thanks to its rich history and cultural significance. Despite recent fluctuations in its tourism sector, Egypt continues to attract millions of visitors annually, offering opportunities for cultural exchange and exploration.
Egypt's safety for tourists, including those from Zambia, is a nuanced issue. According to the Global Peace Index, Egypt ranks 103rd out of 160 countries, which indicates lower safety compared to Zambia's ranking of 55th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Zambia is higher at 5.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Egypt's 2.6. However, the overall safety perception may be influenced by other factors, such as organized crime. Both countries have similar scores for mafia groups (3.0), but Egypt has higher indices for state crime (8.0) and arms trafficking (7.0), indicating more significant challenges in these areas. While Egypt has a lower murder rate, the higher state crime score suggests potential risks for tourists. Overall, while Egypt can be visited safely, travelers should remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings.
