Egypt is an appealing destination for some of the 28 million people in Cameroon, thanks to its rich history and cultural significance. Despite recent fluctuations in its tourism sector, Egypt continues to attract millions of visitors annually, offering opportunities for cultural exchange and exploration.
Egypt is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Cameroon. According to the Global Peace Index, Egypt ranks 103rd out of 160 countries, while Cameroon ranks 135th. The murder rate in Egypt is lower, at 2.6 per 100,000 people, compared to 4.5 in Cameroon. Additionally, crime indices from the Global Organized Crime Index indicate that Egypt has lower scores in several categories, including mafia groups (Egypt: 3.0 vs. Cameroon: 4.0) and crime networks (Egypt: 5.5 vs. Cameroon: 7.5). While both countries face challenges, the overall safety profile suggests that tourists from Cameroon may find Egypt to be a relatively safer destination.
