Cameroon is an appealing destination for some Egyptians due to its rich cultural heritage and diverse natural attractions. As a key part of its economic development, the tourism sector plays a significant role in the country's exports, making it an intriguing option for a segment of Egypt's 111 million population.
Cameroon is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Egypt. According to the Global Peace Index, Cameroon ranks 135th out of 160 countries, while Egypt is ranked 103rd. The murder rate in Cameroon is 4.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Egypt's 2.6. Additionally, Cameroon has higher rates of female murders (2.3) than Egypt (0.5). The Global Organized Crime Index also reflects higher crime risks in Cameroon, with indices indicating more significant issues related to organized crime and state crime. For example, Cameroon scores 4.0 for mafia groups and 7.5 for crime networks, while Egypt scores 3.0 and 5.5, respectively. Overall, tourists from Egypt should exercise caution and stay informed about safety conditions when traveling to Cameroon.
