Cyprus is an appealing destination for some Lithuanian travelers, given its rich cultural heritage and strategic location in the Mediterranean. With around 700,000 Lithuanians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Cyprus an attractive option for their travels.
Cyprus is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Lithuania. It ranks 11th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, making it significantly safer than Lithuania, which ranks 24th. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Cyprus is ranked 86th out of 160 countries, while Lithuania is ranked higher at 31st. In terms of crime statistics, Cyprus has a lower murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Lithuania's 2.6. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Cyprus (1.1) than in Lithuania (1.5). Regarding organized crime, both countries have similar scores for mafia groups and state crime, but Cyprus has higher indices for foreign crime and human trafficking. Overall, while Cyprus presents a safe environment for tourists, it's essential to remain aware of local conditions and practices.
