Colombia is an appealing destination for Panamanian visitors, thanks to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign tourists each year, it remains a popular choice in global tourism. Given that 400,000 Panamanians travel abroad annually, a portion of them is likely to consider Colombia for their travels.
Colombia's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Panama, is a complex issue. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Panama, which ranks 94th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Colombia is significantly higher at 27.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Panama's 12.7. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Colombia (4.1) than in Panama (2.0). The Global Organized Crime Index further illustrates the differences, with Colombia scoring worse in various categories, such as mafia groups (9.5 vs. 7.5) and crime networks (9.0 vs. 7.0). While both countries face challenges, the data suggests that Colombia has higher crime rates and organized crime issues compared to Panama, indicating that tourists should exercise caution when visiting Colombia.
