Colombia is an appealing destination for some Haitians, thanks to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, Colombia is recognized in the global tourism sector, offering diverse attractions that may attract a segment of Haiti's 12 million population.
Colombia's safety for tourists, including those from Haiti, is a nuanced issue. The Global Peace Index ranks Colombia 143rd out of 160 countries, slightly lower than Haiti, which is ranked 141st. In terms of murder rates, Colombia has a higher rate at 27.5 per 100,000 people compared to Haiti's 13.0. Regarding organized crime, Colombia faces significant challenges, with higher indices for mafia groups (9.5), crime networks (9.0), and drug trade compared to Haiti. However, both countries have their own safety concerns, and travelers should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions. In summary, while both countries have safety issues, Colombia's crime rates and organized crime indices suggest a higher level of risk for tourists. It is advisable for travelers to research and take precautions when visiting.
