Colombia is an appealing destination for visitors from the Dominican Republic, thanks to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Given that approximately 600,000 Dominicans travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Colombia an attractive option for their travels.
Colombia presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from the Dominican Republic. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, significantly lower than the Dominican Republic, which ranks 95th. In terms of crime statistics, Colombia has a higher murder rate of 27.5 per 100,000 people compared to the Dominican Republic's 10.5. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Colombia (4.1) than in the Dominican Republic (2.6). The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Colombia faces greater challenges with organized crime, scoring worse in various categories, including mafia presence (9.5 for Colombia vs. 5.0 for the Dominican Republic) and crime networks (9.0 vs. 5.5). While many tourists visit Colombia safely, it is advisable to stay informed about local conditions and take necessary precautions.
