Colombia is an appealing destination for visitors from Azerbaijan due to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign tourists each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Given that 1 million Azerbaijanis travel abroad annually, a portion may find Colombia an intriguing option to explore.
Colombia presents certain safety concerns for tourists, especially when compared to Azerbaijan. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, while Azerbaijan is ranked 104th. Crime statistics highlight significant differences in safety: Colombia has a murder rate of 27.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Azerbaijan's much lower rate of 1.9. Additionally, female murder rates are 4.1 in Colombia versus 1.3 in Azerbaijan. The Global Organized Crime Index further illustrates the disparity, with Colombia scoring worse in various categories such as mafia groups (9.5) and crime networks (9.0), compared to Azerbaijan's scores of 5.5 in both categories. Overall, while many tourists visit Colombia successfully, it is advisable for travelers from Azerbaijan to exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
