China offers a blend of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and varied natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some travelers from Sierra Leone. With around 100,000 Sierra Leoneans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find China an interesting place to visit.
China is generally considered safe for tourists, but it has a lower safety ranking compared to Sierra Leone. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, while Sierra Leone is ranked 64th. In terms of murder rates, Sierra Leone has a rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people, compared to China's 0.5. When looking at organized crime, Sierra Leone scores better in several categories. For instance, mafia groups are rated 3.5 in Sierra Leone versus 7.0 in China. Additionally, crime networks score 5.5 in Sierra Leone compared to 7.5 in China. However, China has a lower score for foreign crime (3.0) compared to Sierra Leone (7.0). Overall, while China has a lower murder rate and some aspects of organized crime are less severe, it is important for tourists from Sierra Leone to remain aware of their surroundings and exercise caution, as safety conditions can vary by region.
