China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some of Qatar's 3 million residents. Despite variations in tourist arrivals and spending, China remains a significant contender in the global tourism market.
China is generally considered safe for tourists, but it has a lower safety ranking compared to Qatar. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, while Qatar ranks 29th. In terms of murder rates, Qatar has a significantly lower rate at 0.3 per 100,000 people compared to China's 0.5. Crime statistics from the Global Organized Crime Index indicate that Qatar performs better in various crime categories, with its indices being closer to 1 (best) compared to China's higher scores, which indicate more significant issues. For example, Qatar scores 1.0 for mafia groups, while China scores 7.0. Overall, while China is relatively safe, tourists from Qatar may find it less secure than their home country, particularly in terms of organized crime and specific crime rates. It is advisable for travelers to stay informed and exercise standard precautions while visiting.
