China offers a compelling mix of modern infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Mozambicans. While tourist arrivals and spending may vary, China remains a significant player in global tourism, attracting a portion of Mozambique's 33 million residents.
China is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Mozambique. According to the Global Peace Index, China ranks 87th out of 160 countries, which is better than Mozambique's ranking of 106th. The murder rate in China is significantly lower at 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Mozambique's rate of 3.5. In terms of organized crime, while China has higher indices for mafia groups and crime networks (7.0 and 7.5 respectively), it still has lower scores for state crime and foreign crime compared to Mozambique. For instance, Mozambique scores higher in state crime (9.0) and crime networks (8.0), while China scores 7.0 and 7.5. Overall, while both countries face challenges related to crime, China presents a safer environment for tourists based on these statistics.
