The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) offers a unique appeal for some Indian travelers, despite challenges in tourism data and analysis. While comprehensive statistics are lacking, a segment of the 8.6 million Indians who travel abroad annually may find the DRC an intriguing destination.
Congo, D.R. is considered less safe for tourists compared to India. According to the Global Peace Index, Congo, D.R. ranks 155th out of 160 countries, while India ranks 114th. The murder rate in India is 2.9 per 100,000 people, but specific data for Congo, D.R. is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights significant concerns, with Congo, D.R. scoring poorly across various crime categories. For instance, it scores 9.0 for mafia groups, crime networks, state crime, foreign crime, and resource crime, indicating a high level of organized crime.
