Canada offers a rich blend of cultural and natural attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Portuguese travelers. Although there has been a recent decline in tourist arrivals, millions of international visitors still choose Canada each year. With approximately 1 million Portuguese traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Canada an interesting option to explore.
Canada is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Portugal. According to the Global Peace Index, Canada ranks 11th out of 160 countries, indicating a high level of safety. In comparison, Portugal ranks 7th among European countries, suggesting both nations are relatively safe. While Portugal has a lower murder rate (0.8 per 100,000) compared to Canada (2.1 per 100,000), the overall crime environment in Canada remains secure. Various crime indices show that Canada has a slightly higher score in some areas, but it also has lower scores in state crime and arms trafficking, indicating effective law enforcement. Overall, tourists from Portugal can feel confident in their safety while visiting Canada.
