Botswana offers a unique appeal for travelers from Zambia, featuring expansive savannas and diverse wildlife. Its relatively low visitor numbers create an exclusive atmosphere, attracting discerning tourists looking for unique experiences. This makes it an attractive option for a segment of Zambia's 20 million population.
Botswana is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Zambia. According to the Global Peace Index, Botswana ranks 49th out of 160 countries, making it safer than Zambia, which ranks 55th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Botswana is higher at 10.5 per 100,000 people compared to Zambia's 5.4. However, Botswana has a lower index for organized crime, with a score of 1.0 for mafia groups compared to Zambia's 3.0. Additionally, Botswana scores better in state crime (3.0 vs. Zambia's 6.0) and flora crime (2.0 vs. Zambia's 8.0). Overall, while there are some safety concerns, Botswana offers a relatively secure environment for tourists compared to Zambia.
