Brazil offers a rich array of cultural experiences and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some of Suriname's approximately one million residents. Its well-developed tourism infrastructure supports a variety of attractions, from famous beaches to the Amazon rainforest, catering to diverse interests.
Brazil's safety for tourists, including those from Suriname, presents some concerns. The Global Peace Index ranks Brazil 129th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of violence. The murder rate in Brazil is significantly higher at 22.5 per 100,000 people compared to Suriname's 5.7. Additionally, Brazil has higher indices for organized crime, with mafia groups rated at 7.5 and crime networks at 6.5, compared to Suriname's 2.5 and 5.0, respectively. While Brazil offers rich cultural experiences, tourists should remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings, particularly in areas known for higher crime rates. It's advisable to take standard safety precautions while traveling.
