Burkina Faso offers a diverse tourism landscape and rich cultural heritage that can appeal to adventurous travelers from Niger. While it has relatively low global tourist arrivals, it presents unique attractions that may interest a segment of Niger's 26 million population.
Burkina Faso is currently considered less safe for tourists compared to Niger. According to the Global Peace Index, Burkina Faso ranks 146th out of 160 countries, while Niger ranks 139th. The murder rate in Burkina Faso is 1.3 per 100,000 people, which is lower than Niger's rate of 4.4. In terms of organized crime, both countries face challenges, but Niger generally has lower indices in various categories. For example, Niger's score for mafia groups is 4.0 compared to Burkina Faso's 3.5, indicating a slightly better situation in Niger. However, both countries have high scores for state crime and resource crime, with Niger scoring 8.5 and Burkina Faso 8.5 for state crime, and Niger at 7.5 while Burkina Faso is at 8.5 for resource crime. Overall, while both countries have their safety concerns, tourists coming from Niger may find Burkina Faso to be relatively less secure. Travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about the current situation before visiting.
