Belgium is an appealing destination for some visitors from Zimbabwe due to its rich cultural heritage and modern attractions. The country's historical significance, stunning architecture, and charming cities like Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp contribute to its global tourism appeal. With 3.3 million Zimbabweans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Belgium an interesting place to explore.
Belgium is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Zimbabwe. According to the Global Peace Index, Belgium ranks 16th out of 160 countries, indicating it is one of the safest countries globally. In contrast, Zimbabwe ranks 119th. Crime statistics further illustrate this difference: Belgium has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Zimbabwe's 6.1. Additionally, Belgium has lower rates of female murders (0.2) compared to Zimbabwe (1.9). While Belgium ranks 39th for safety when walking alone at night among European countries, it remains significantly safer than Zimbabwe in various crime indices. For instance, Belgium scores better in organized crime metrics, particularly in areas like state crime and flora crime. Overall, tourists from Zimbabwe can expect a safer environment in Belgium, though standard travel precautions should always be observed.
