Head of mission: Mr Mohamed Rustom, Honorary Consul General (as of 2010)
Bangladesh, with its lush landscapes and diverse cultures, presents an intriguing option for some Syrian travelers. Although it currently ranks low in tourist arrivals, the country is gradually gaining global recognition for its authentic cultural experiences and natural beauty. A segment of Syria's 21 million population may find Bangladesh appealing as a travel destination.
Bangladesh is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Syria. According to the Global Peace Index, Bangladesh ranks 91st out of 160 countries, while Syria is much lower at 153rd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rates are similar, with Syria at 2.2 per 100,000 people and Bangladesh at 2.4. However, when examining organized crime, Bangladesh has a lower risk in several categories. For instance, the index for mafia groups is 5.5 in Bangladesh compared to 4.5 in Syria, and crime networks score 5.5 in Bangladesh versus 9.0 in Syria, indicating a higher prevalence of organized crime in Syria. While both countries face challenges related to crime, Bangladesh presents a comparatively safer environment for tourists from Syria.
