Azerbaijan presents a diverse range of tourism experiences rooted in its unique cultural heritage and varied landscapes, making it an appealing option for some Ukrainian travelers. With 11 million Ukrainians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Azerbaijan an interesting destination, especially given its strategic significance in the tourism sector.
Azerbaijan is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Ukraine. According to the Global Peace Index, Azerbaijan ranks 104th out of 160 countries, while Ukraine is ranked 156th. The murder rate in Azerbaijan is significantly lower at 1.9 per 100,000 people, compared to Ukraine's 3.8. In terms of organized crime, Azerbaijan also shows better statistics. For instance, the Global Organized Crime Index rates mafia groups and crime networks in Azerbaijan at 5.5, while Ukraine scores higher at 6.0 and 7.0, respectively. Additionally, Azerbaijan has lower indices for human trafficking (4.5 vs. 7.0) and arms trafficking (3.0 vs. 8.0). Overall, while no destination is without risk, Azerbaijan presents a safer option for tourists coming from Ukraine.
