Azerbaijan presents a compelling option for Turkish travelers, thanks to its diverse cultural heritage and varied landscapes. While tourism numbers have fluctuated recently, the country's strategic significance in the sector is on the rise. With 2.7 million Turks traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Azerbaijan appealing.
Azerbaijan is generally considered safe for tourists from Türkiye. While Türkiye ranks 31st in safety for walking alone at night among European countries, there is no specific data available for Azerbaijan. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Azerbaijan is ranked 104th out of 160 countries, which is safer than Türkiye's ranking of 137th. In terms of crime statistics, Azerbaijan has a lower murder rate of 1.9 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. Although the female murder rate is slightly higher in Azerbaijan (1.3) than in Türkiye (1.0), overall, Azerbaijan has better scores in organized crime indices. For instance, Azerbaijan scores lower in mafia groups (5.5 vs. Türkiye's 8.0) and state crime (7.5 vs. Türkiye's 9.0). In summary, while both countries have their challenges, Azerbaijan presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Türkiye, based on various crime statistics and safety rankings.
