Angola offers a unique appeal for Nigerian visitors, showcasing a blend of its complex history and a dynamic present. While it currently ranks low in global tourism, its rich cultural and natural resources, along with improving infrastructure, make it an intriguing option for a segment of Nigeria's 219 million population.
Angola is generally considered a safer destination for tourists compared to Nigeria. According to the Global Peace Index, Angola ranks 70th out of 160 countries, while Nigeria is ranked 144th. The murder rate in Angola is significantly lower at 4.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Nigeria's 22.0. In terms of organized crime, Angola has lower indices in several categories compared to Nigeria. For instance, Angola's mafia group index is 3.0, while Nigeria's is 5.5. Additionally, Angola scores better in the heroin trade (3.0 vs. 6.0) and synthetic drugs (2.5 vs. 8.0). Overall, while no destination is without risks, Angola presents a relatively safer environment for tourists from Nigeria.
