Zimbabwe offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Ugandans. While recent foreign visitor numbers have declined, attractions like Victoria Falls and the historical site of Great Zimbabwe highlight its diverse tourism appeal. This could attract a segment of Uganda's 47 million population.
Zimbabwe is relatively safe for tourists coming from Uganda. According to the Global Peace Index, Zimbabwe ranks 119th out of 160 countries, while Uganda is slightly lower at 124th. In terms of murder rates, Zimbabwe has a lower rate at 6.1 per 100,000 people compared to Uganda's 8.5. When examining organized crime, Zimbabwe generally has better scores in areas like mafia presence (3.5 vs. Uganda's 5.0) and human smuggling (3.5 vs. Uganda's 5.0). However, both countries face challenges with state crime and resource crime, where Zimbabwe scores higher (8.0) than Uganda (7.5). Overall, while both countries have their safety concerns, Zimbabwe presents a comparable level of safety for tourists.
