Zimbabwe offers a rich blend of cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for some Turkish travelers. Although foreign visitor numbers have recently decreased, attractions like Victoria Falls and the historical site of Great Zimbabwe highlight its tourism potential. With 2.7 million Turks traveling abroad annually, there is a segment that may find Zimbabwe an interesting choice.
Zimbabwe's safety for tourists from Türkiye can be assessed through various indices and statistics. According to the Global Peace Index, Zimbabwe ranks 119th out of 160 countries, which is better than Türkiye's rank of 137th. However, the murder rate in Zimbabwe is higher at 6.1 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. In terms of organized crime, Zimbabwe has lower scores in several categories compared to Türkiye, indicating a relatively lower presence of mafia groups and human trafficking. For instance, Zimbabwe scores 3.5 for human smuggling, while Türkiye scores 9.0. Overall, while Zimbabwe has a higher murder rate, it may be considered safer than Türkiye based on the Global Peace Index. Tourists should exercise general caution and stay informed about local conditions when traveling to Zimbabwe.
