Zimbabwe offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for some Ethiopian travelers. While foreign visitor numbers have recently declined, attractions like Victoria Falls and the historical site of Great Zimbabwe highlight its diverse tourism potential. Thus, it may attract a segment of Ethiopia's 123 million population.
Zimbabwe is relatively safe for tourists compared to Ethiopia. According to the Global Peace Index, Zimbabwe ranks 119th out of 160 countries, while Ethiopia is ranked 142nd. In terms of murder rates, Zimbabwe has a rate of 6.1 per 100,000 people, which is lower than Ethiopia's rate of 8.8. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face challenges, Zimbabwe generally has lower scores in several crime categories, such as human smuggling (3.5 in Zimbabwe vs. 6.5 in Ethiopia) and arms trafficking (4.0 in Zimbabwe vs. 7.0 in Ethiopia). Overall, while no destination is without risk, Zimbabwe may offer a safer environment for tourists coming from Ethiopia.
