Zambia is an appealing destination for some Malawians due to its stunning natural attractions, particularly Victoria Falls, a renowned natural wonder. Its rich culture and diverse landscapes also attract adventure seekers and nature lovers, making it a noteworthy option for a segment of Malawi's population of 20 million.
Zambia is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Malawi. According to the Global Peace Index, Zambia ranks 55th out of 160 countries, making it safer than Malawi, which ranks 77th. In terms of crime rates, the murder rate in Zambia is 5.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Malawi's lower rate of 1.8. However, various organized crime indices indicate that both countries face challenges. For example, Zambia has higher scores in areas like crime networks and state crime compared to Malawi. Overall, while Zambia is safer than Malawi according to several metrics, travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and exercise standard safety precautions while visiting.
