South Africa is an appealing destination for some segments of Vietnam's 98 million population, thanks to its diverse landscapes and rich cultural experiences. While visitor numbers have varied in recent years, the country shows resilience and potential in the tourism sector.
South Africa presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Vietnam. According to the Global Peace Index, South Africa ranks 125th out of 160 countries, while Vietnam ranks significantly higher at 41st. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in South Africa is notably higher, at 41.9 per 100,000 people, compared to Vietnam's 1.5. Additionally, South Africa has a female murder rate of 9.5, while data for Vietnam is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights differences in safety, with South Africa scoring worse in several categories, such as arms trafficking (8.0) and synthetic drugs (8.5), compared to Vietnam's scores, which are generally lower and indicate less organized crime activity. Overall, while South Africa has many attractions for tourists, it is essential for visitors from Vietnam to remain vigilant and informed about safety risks while traveling there.
