South Africa offers a rich cultural experience and diverse attractions, making it an appealing option for some Nepali travelers. With 1.2 million Nepalese traveling internationally each year, a portion may find South Africa an interesting destination worth exploring.
South Africa's safety for tourists, including those from Nepal, is a concern. The Global Peace Index ranks South Africa 125th out of 160 countries, indicating it is less safe than Nepal, which ranks 78th. In terms of crime statistics, South Africa has a significantly higher murder rate of 41.9 per 100,000 people, compared to Nepal's 2.1. Additionally, South Africa reports a female murder rate of 9.5, while data for Nepal is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights challenges in South Africa, with higher scores indicating worse conditions across various crime categories. For instance, mafia groups and crime networks score 7.0 in South Africa compared to lower scores in Nepal (4.5 and 6.5, respectively). Overall, while South Africa offers rich cultural experiences, tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about safety measures.
