South Africa offers a diverse and vibrant cultural experience, making it an appealing destination for some of the 23 million people in Burkina Faso. Despite recent fluctuations in tourism numbers, the country shows resilience and potential for attracting visitors.
South Africa presents a mixed safety profile for tourists, including those from Burkina Faso. According to the Global Peace Index, South Africa is ranked 125th out of 160 countries, which is safer than Burkina Faso's rank of 146th. However, South Africa has a significantly higher murder rate at 41.9 per 100,000 people compared to Burkina Faso's 1.3. In terms of organized crime, South Africa scores worse on several indices, with a score of 7.0 for mafia groups and crime networks, whereas Burkina Faso scores 3.5 and 6.5 respectively. Other crime-related indices also show South Africa facing more challenges, particularly in areas like human trafficking and drug trade. While South Africa is relatively safer than Burkina Faso in some aspects, tourists should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and safety measures when traveling.
