Yemen offers a unique appeal for Canadian travelers interested in history and culture, despite facing various challenges. With 5.0 million Canadians traveling internationally each year, a segment of this population may find Yemen's rich heritage and stunning landscapes worth exploring.
Yemen is currently considered highly unsafe for tourists, including those from Canada. According to the Global Peace Index, Yemen ranks 160th out of 160 countries, indicating a significant lack of safety compared to Canada, which ranks 11th. In terms of crime statistics, Yemen has a murder rate of 6.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Canada's much lower rate of 2.1. Additionally, various organized crime indices show Yemen scoring poorly in multiple categories, such as mafia groups (8.0), crime networks (7.0), and human trafficking (8.5), while Canada scores significantly better across these metrics. Overall, the safety situation in Yemen poses considerable risks for tourists, and travel is generally not advised.
