Vanuatu offers a unique and enriching experience for visitors, characterized by its stunning coral reefs and volcanic landscapes. Although it attracts a relatively small number of international tourists, those who visit tend to spend significantly, indicating a high level of satisfaction. This makes Vanuatu an appealing destination for a segment of Malaysia's 34 million population.
Vanuatu is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Malaysia. According to the Global Peace Index, Malaysia ranks 10th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety. While specific data for Vanuatu is not available, its murder rate is lower than Malaysia's, with Vanuatu at 0.3 per 100,000 people compared to Malaysia's 0.7. In terms of organized crime, Vanuatu scores significantly better than Malaysia across various categories, with lower indices indicating less organized crime activity. For example, Vanuatu has a mafia group index of 1.0 compared to Malaysia's 4.5, and a human trafficking index of 2.5 versus Malaysia's 6.5. Overall, while no place is entirely free of risk, Vanuatu presents a safer environment for Malaysian tourists compared to their home country.
