Uzbekistan offers a compelling blend of rich heritage and developing infrastructure, making it an appealing destination for some of Turkmenistan's 6 million residents. However, tourist arrivals have varied, peaking in the past but recently declining due to changes in global travel trends.
Uzbekistan is generally considered a safe destination for tourists coming from Turkmenistan. According to the Global Peace Index, Uzbekistan ranks 58th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety, while Turkmenistan ranks lower at 80th. In terms of crime statistics, Uzbekistan has a murder rate of 1.4 per 100,000 people, significantly lower than Turkmenistan's rate of 4.2. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that while both countries face challenges, Uzbekistan has lower scores in various crime categories compared to Turkmenistan, particularly in state crime and human trafficking. Overall, tourists can expect a safer environment in Uzbekistan compared to Turkmenistan.
