Uzbekistan offers a compelling appeal for some Afghans, showcasing its rich heritage and developing infrastructure. Although it has experienced fluctuations in tourist numbers, it remains an intriguing destination for a segment of Afghanistan's 40 million population.
Uzbekistan is generally considered a safer destination for tourists compared to Afghanistan. According to the Global Peace Index, Uzbekistan ranks 58th out of 160 countries, while Afghanistan ranks significantly lower at 157th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Uzbekistan is 1.4 per 100,000 people, compared to Afghanistan's 4.0. Additionally, various organized crime indices show that Uzbekistan scores better than Afghanistan in several categories, including mafia groups (Uzbekistan 5.0 vs. Afghanistan 7.5) and crime networks (Uzbekistan 4.5 vs. Afghanistan 8.5). Overall, tourists coming from Afghanistan can expect a relatively safer environment in Uzbekistan, supported by lower crime rates and a more favorable ranking in global safety indices.
