Uruguay is an appealing destination for some Turkish visitors, thanks to its vibrant culture and scenic landscapes. Positioned between Brazil and Argentina, it boasts diverse attractions that attract both leisure and business travelers. With 2.7 million Turks traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Uruguay an intriguing option.
Uruguay is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Türkiye. While Türkiye ranks 31st in safety for walking alone at night among 40 European countries, there is no specific data available for Uruguay in this regard. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Uruguay is ranked 51st out of 160 countries, making it significantly safer than Türkiye, which is ranked 137th. In terms of crime statistics, Uruguay has a higher murder rate at 8.9 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. However, when examining organized crime indices, Uruguay scores much better in various categories, such as mafia groups (1.5 for Uruguay vs. 8.0 for Türkiye) and state crime (2.0 for Uruguay vs. 9.0 for Türkiye). Overall, while Uruguay has its challenges, it is perceived as a safer option for tourists compared to Türkiye, particularly regarding organized crime and general safety.
