Uruguay is an appealing destination for some Saudi visitors, thanks to its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. Positioned between Brazil and Argentina, it features diverse attractions that can attract both leisure and business travelers. With 4.8 million Saudis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Uruguay an intriguing option.
Uruguay is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Saudi Arabia. According to the Global Peace Index, Uruguay ranks 51st out of 160 countries, which is significantly better than Saudi Arabia's ranking of 100th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Uruguay is higher at 8.9 per 100,000 people compared to Saudi Arabia's 0.8. However, other safety indices suggest that Uruguay has a lower prevalence of organized crime and related activities. For instance, Uruguay scores better in categories such as mafia groups (1.5 vs. 3.0) and state crime (2.0 vs. 8.0) compared to Saudi Arabia. While tourists should always exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings, Uruguay offers a relatively safe environment for visitors.
