Uganda, known as the "Pearl of Africa," boasts beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife, including mountain gorillas. Despite being an underexplored destination in global tourism, it could appeal to a segment of the 4.3 million South Koreans who travel abroad annually, making it a potentially attractive option for some visitors from South Korea.
Uganda's safety for tourists from South Korea is a concern, as it ranks 124th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, compared to South Korea's 45th position. The murder rate in Uganda is significantly higher at 8.5 per 100,000 people, compared to South Korea's low rate of 0.5. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Uganda faces challenges with organized crime, with higher scores in areas such as state crime (7.5) and crime networks (7.0) compared to South Korea. While Uganda has a rich cultural and natural heritage that attracts tourists, it is advisable for visitors to remain vigilant and informed about safety precautions while traveling in the country.
