Uganda, known as the "Pearl of Africa," boasts beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife, including mountain gorillas. While it remains largely unexplored in global tourism, it could appeal to some of the 4.4 million Hungarians who travel abroad annually.
Uganda's safety for tourists, including those from Hungary, presents some concerns. While Hungary ranks 16th in safety among 40 European countries for walking alone at night, Uganda is ranked 124th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a less secure environment. In terms of crime statistics, Uganda has a significantly higher murder rate of 8.5 per 100,000 people compared to Hungary's low rate of 0.8. Additionally, organized crime indices show that Uganda scores worse in several categories, including mafia presence and crime networks, with scores of 5.0 and 7.0 respectively, compared to Hungary's much lower scores of 1.0 and 4.0. Overall, while many tourists visit Uganda without incident, it is advisable for travelers from Hungary to exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
