Uganda, known as the "Pearl of Africa," boasts breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity, making it an intriguing yet underexplored destination for global tourism. With vast savannahs, stunning waterfalls, and dense rainforests that shelter diverse wildlife, including mountain gorillas, it could appeal to some Greek travelers. Each year, around 2 million Greeks travel abroad, and a portion of them may find Uganda an attractive option.
Uganda presents certain safety challenges for tourists, particularly when compared to Greece. While Greece ranks 40th in safety among European countries, Uganda is ranked 124th out of 160 countries according to the Global Peace Index. In terms of crime statistics, Greece has a significantly lower murder rate at 0.9 per 100,000 people, compared to Uganda's 8.5. Additionally, the rates of female murders are 0.6 in Greece versus 4.0 in Uganda. The Global Organized Crime Index also highlights differences, with Greece generally scoring better across various crime categories. For instance, Greece has lower indices for mafia groups (3.0 vs. 5.0 for Uganda) and crime networks (6.5 vs. 7.0). Overall, while many tourists visit Uganda safely, it is advisable for travelers from Greece to remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings.
