Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Romanian travelers. With 11.6 million Romanians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them may find Ukraine an interesting option to explore.
Ukraine's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Romania, is a concern based on various safety rankings and crime statistics. Romania ranks 36th in safety according to the Global Peace Index, while Ukraine is significantly lower at 156th out of 160 countries. In terms of murder rates, Romania has a rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people, compared to Ukraine's 3.8, indicating a higher risk in Ukraine. Additionally, organized crime indices show that Romania generally fares better across various categories, such as mafia presence and state crime, with lower scores indicating better safety. Overall, while some areas in Ukraine may be safe for tourists, the overall security situation is not as favorable as in Romania, suggesting that tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about the current conditions before traveling.
